Observation Narrative
Plot is typical of most of the Riverbend floodplain - well-drained and forested with mesophytic alluvial vegetation. In the spring, this site is lush with Mertensia virginica (dominant), Erythronium americanum, Phlox divaricata, Claytonia virginica, and other spring ephemals. Quercus shumardii is a noteworthy member of the overstory among the more widespread Platanus occidentalis, Juglans nigra, and Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Acer negundo, Ulmus americana, and Asimina triloba dominate the understory.
